Painting Without Knowing: Trusting the Next Brushstroke

Painting Without Knowing: Trusting the Next Brushstroke

At Pathfinder Art, many paintings begin with a simple question:

“What if I don’t know what I’m painting?”

The answer is simple — I begin anyway.

Most of my artwork starts without a plan. There may be a feeling, a colour, or a quiet sense of direction, but rarely a finished image in mind. Layer by layer, brushstroke by brushstroke, the painting reveals itself.

This intuitive approach is at the heart of Pathfinder Art.

It is a reminder that creativity is not always about control. Sometimes it is about trust. Trusting the process, trusting your intuition, and allowing something unexpected to emerge.

The canvas often reflects life itself. We rarely know exactly where our path will lead, yet we move forward one step at a time. Through intuitive painting, I have learned that we do not need all the answers before we begin. We simply need the courage to start.

Many of the paintings you see here were created this way — discovered rather than designed. Each piece carries its own energy, story, and invitation to pause, reflect, and connect.

Whether you are viewing an original painting, a fine art print, or joining a workshop, my hope is that Pathfinder Art encourages you to embrace possibility, trust yourself, and remember that sometimes the most beautiful journeys begin without a map.

You don’t need to see the whole path. Just trust the next brushstroke.
